As I was sauntering over for my umpteenth bathroom break of the morning (don't worry there is nothing wrong with my internal organs, I just get bored at work) something dawned on me. It has been a decade since any of my favourite professional sports teams has won a championship.
What team was that you ask? The 1999 Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
And really, no offense to the CFL and their fans, with only 8 (sometimes 9) teams in the league, you should be able to fall ass-backwords in to a Grey Cup or two a decade.
So here is the current run down:
Hamilton Tiger-Cats: 1999
Oakland Athletics: 1989
Dallas Cowboys: 1995
New York Islanders: 1983
Toronto Raptors: anways...
Please note that I do have other favourite teams in other sports, and nothing against them, I just don't care too much about Major League Soccer or Lacrosse or Jai Alai.
So yeah, it's been a decade since I have been able to celebrate a championship. Isn't that sad? And it's not like people party until they shit their pants over a Grey Cup win, well aside from the fine upstanding residents of Regina.
I am now 31 and haven't had a championship to drink to since I was 21! That's super fucking sad because I feel my drinking habits and tolerance have really evolved in those 10 years. Frankly, I think it's a disservice that the sports world has been deprived of my championship celebratory drinking!
If and when one of my teams does finally win "the big one" don't worry, I won't be an asshole about it. But I just very well may cry.
Just warning you.
